Your Questions About Probiotics And Pregnancy

Donna asks…

Probiotics during pregnancy?

Are probiotics ok during pregnancy? My doc didn’t say one way or another. Anyone currently using probiotics and pregnant?

Joy answers:

Yes, they’re fine because it’s just more of the good bacteria that are supposed to be in your digestive system anyway. I take one every day because it prevents respiratory infections in people with asthma. (Works too! I read an article in a science magazine on it and this is the first year in six years I haven’t gotten bronchitis.) Doctors don’t tend to know anything about natural medicine, if you can’t write a prescription about it they’re clueless, which is too bad because a lot of herbal medicine is fine during pregnancy (some of it’s not so it’s always good to check with a naturopath or someone who knows which ones are safe) but they don’t tell you about the stuff you CAN take, just what you can’t. Not only did my naturopath say they’re fine, she encouraged me to keep taking them. (I know my username is Sven right now but I’m a woman)
