healthy fats ???
fats in nuts and peanut butter and things like shrimp salads ( with no dressing ) can these make you fat ? things like nuts and some very healthy protein type bars have a lot of fat – even the south beach diet has a lot of fat .. i dont get how these can help you lose weight or get the ripped look
Joy answers:
OK… Here’s the skinny on fat – there’s mono-unsaturated, poly-unsaturated, and saturated fats. Saturated fats are the bad ones; these come from animal products like dairy (yogurt is a different story, though), butter, red meat, etc.
Unsaturated fats are the good ones; these come from plant materials – olives and olive oil, other veggie oils, nuts, nut butters (the unprocessed kinds – just mashed up nuts w/ a little oil, salt, and sometimes sugar), avocados, flax, other seeds, and fish. They help lower the bad cholesterol, and people with diets high in Omega-3s and Omega-6s (get the Omegas from walnuts, flaxseed, and salmon) have shown lower rates of major depression and bi-polar disorder, seasonal affective disorder, and postpartum depression.
You’re right in a way, though. While eating unsaturated fats is actually good for you, and can help lose weight in that eating smaller portions more frequently will help maintain, or even increase, metabolism, just eating these foods will not make you “ripped.” In order to be ripped, you need to work the muscles… Frequently and, perhaps, intensely.
