While many people understand that asthma is a common respiratory condition that can affect someone’s ability to breathe freely, few know much more detailed information beyond that. Fortunately, this handpicked selection of tips and tricks can give you some more detailed insight into the symptoms, causes, and direct triggers of asthma attacks.

TIP! Be sure to cover your mattresses and pillows if you suffer from allergy symptoms and asthma. These covers should be plastic ones that are specially made to block allergens.

Diet

Be aware of how your diet affects your asthma. Often specific foods like peanut butter contain allergens for anyone suffering from asthma. If you have certain food-based triggers, manage your diet to avoid those ingredients and lessen your asthma symptoms and attacks. If you try a new food, monitor your symptoms to ensure it does not cause increased asthma problems.

TIP! An effective way to prevent asthma symptoms is to have a dehumidifier in your home. These help to keep a dry environment in your home.

Make sure you do not have any stress in your life because emotional anxiety may, in fact, trigger asthma symptoms. Proper rest, diet, and exercise are important for your overall health and can help you manage your asthma symptoms. Emotional health is as important as physical health in your life.

Keep an asthma diary to keep track of your symptoms and triggers. By writing down the details of your condition day by day, you can watch for patterns and identify unknown triggers. This will help you to modify your environment, diet and activities for optimum control of your asthma.

TIP! When you are trying to prevent asthma, you should avoid smoke. Smoke can cause you to have an asthma attack.

Once you’ve been diagnosed with asthma, look for help outside of your primary care physician to get a diversity of treatment options. Especially consider seeing a nutritionist, who can help you pinpoint and avoid foods that trigger your asthma. A nutritionist can also help develop a diet for you if your asthma is being exacerbated by being overweight.

Whether you have sought out additional information for yourself or for a loved one who has been diagnosed with this condition, you will do well to remember the advice and facts that you have just learned. This knowledge, combined with the advice of a medical professional, can give you an in-depth understanding of the condition.

You’ll find more tips and advice on helping asthma attacks at…. http://www.AsthmaReliefNaturally.com/

Asthma is a serious respiratory condition affecting many people. If you’re a sufferer of this condition, you may feel that you can’t be physically active, or have to avoid certain activities for your health. There may be something you can do, however. Read on to learn about ways to deal with your asthma condition.

One important part of an effective asthma treatment regimen is selecting the proper inhaler. Asthma inhalers deliver bronchodilators that open airways and ease chest constrictions. There are devices available for both short and long term symptom relief. Asthma sufferers should use an inhaler whose bronchodilator formula is suited to their particular symptoms. Your doctor will advise.

Going to an asthma support group or just talking to people who also have asthma can really help out. They can give you pointers and tips on what to do in certain situations or tips on what to do to help you in your fight against asthma. Support from people around you is key.

Be sure to keep your household humidity low to avoid asthma attacks. You should keep it in the 30%-50% range. Be sure that the exhaust on your clothes dryer vents to the outside of your home, and install good, strong exhaust fans in your bathrooms to vent out moisture. Use dehumidifiers in humid areas like basements.

Be prepared for your asthma treatment to be increased if you have a cold or hay fever. The side effects of many illnesses can flare up your asthma so bad that you have to have an increase in treatment. Your doctor may also add another treatment to your regimen until your illness gets better.

You may want to join a support group if you have asthma. The people in the group are in the same situation as you so they know what you have to go through everyday. Also, they may have personal tips of what you can do to control your asthma symptoms.

Natural Methods

Use pillows and comforters that are filled with synthetic polyester materials. Natural fillers, like feather or down, can be an allergen that triggers asthmatic symptoms. This is one instance when organic materials are not the preferable choice. Pillows and mattresses should also have covers that are impervious to dust mites.

When you clean your home, as you should do regularly to minimize asthma symptoms, use all-natural cleaning products. Harsh chemical cleaners can give off fumes that may irritate your lungs and make your asthma symptoms worse. Many chemical cleaning products also have fragrances in them that should be avoided by people with asthma.

Add onions to your daily diet. Onions contain a chemical called diphenyl-thiosulfate, which has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-asthmatic effects. Eating more onions can reduce your need for pharmaceutical interventions in order to treat your asthma symptoms, by increasing your body’s natural ability to reduce inflammation in your lungs.

Talk with your doctor and determine if supplements could help you manage your Asthma. Natural supplements such as Licorice Root, Marshmallow Root, Gingko Biloba and Mullein help some Asthma sufferers control their symptoms. You may find adding one or more of these supplements to your diet helps you manage your condition, but be sure to discuss with your doctor before beginning one.

It is important that you try to stay clear of cleaning products if you have asthma. Many of the chemicals in cleaning products can trigger asthma symptoms or attacks. If you are the person in your house who does the cleaning, there natural product solutions which are safe for you to use.

While asthma is a serious condition, and it can be difficult to manage at times, hopefully this article has shown you that there is hope for managing your condition and still leading the kind of life you’d like to lead. Apply these tips and make the best out of your life.

It hasn’t got anything to do with Healthy Eating, but I was so thrilled to see this video of the tunnel breakthrough, that I just wanted to share it with people.

Let’s use it as an exercise in thanks-giving for the fresh air, loved ones, and access to healthy food that many of us (myself included) take so much for granted.

What fantastic spirit and strength of character these wonderful people have. That includes the miners, their families, the rescuers and the co-operative effort that has made this rescue operation possible.

All too often the news is full of doom and gloom, so it’s wonderful to see some good news for a change. Whatever your spiritual leanings, please take a moment of prayer for the final happy conclusion to this drama.

500 new cases of Alzheimer’s disease are diagnosed every day in the UK, so it was good news that last week the papers were full of the “news” that taking high doses of B-vitamins could help stave off this terrible disease. Not that itwas news to those of us involved in nutrition!

Researchers studying pensioners taking the supplement found that 3 B vitamins (B6, B12 and Folic Acid) reduced brain shrinkage, which is associated with Alzheimer’s, by up to 500% with the average reduction being 30%. The researchers from Oxford University said it offered the ‘first glimmer of hope’ when no previous drugs were successful.   Vit B breaks down homocysteine, which has been linked to memory loss. The researchers, including Professors David Smith and Helga Refsum, worked with colleagues in Norway.

The pills they used contained B12 at levels 300 x higher than could be obtained by eating foods high in vit B12. They also contained B6 and B9. The fact that these benefits are only found at higher levels than normally found in food backs up nutritionists’ opinion on the importance of supplementation.

The Alzheimer’s Research Trust said “These are very important results.”

Homcysteine is a very interesting subject. Reducing levels of homocysteine has been found beneficial in numerous health concerns. The books below are very interesting, particularly those by Dr Kilmer McKully who was way ahead of his time in preventive medicine.

Without breathing we are in BIG trouble – to say the least. But we can still function pretty well when we breathe sub-optimally, so perhaps you (and I) don’t give it as much thought as we should. For millennia, cultures across the world have known about the power of breathing. But only recently have scientists been able to fully understand how changing your breathing patterns can actually improve your life.

This information collated for you in a new book recommended to me by a trusted supplier, reports that you can be happier, boost your mental skills, reduce tension and sleep more soundly, when you change your breathing.

When you breathe differently for just a few minutes each day you can enjoy these results:

* Increased brain power and focus
* Greater relaxation and stress-relief
* Improved immune system
* Happier and enhanced moods

While many of us plan to improve our diets, it’s often easier said than done. The biggest sticking point can be that we don’t actually know what the problem is that stops us from losing weight. Here is a simple yet effective way to get to the root of the problem.

Many people who want to lose weight will begin with a food diary or journal. A food diary is a great way to see and see just what you are eating everyday. In fact, once you get the hang of using it on a day to day basis, you may be surprised by what you learn. Your will easily see where you need to concentrate your diet efforts.

A food diary has several uses. First of all, it will help you see just everything you eat each day. If you are systematic about recording what you eat, you will see how many cookies or how many rolls you ate, which will give you a good idea about how much you need to cut back as far as your diet goes.

Another value of using a food diary is that it may help you control your portions. If you see that on a particular day you ate three slices of pizza, you will soon realize that you are nibbling way more than your body needs. This is an effective tool for any dieter. Of course you must be honest with yourself!

Yet another advantage of attempting to keep a food diary is that you will be able to tell why you eat. Many people do not eat simply because they are hungry. People eat for a variety of reasons. You may eat when you are bored, or miserable or stressed. When you keep a food diary, you will be able to see these patterns and work to do something to make a healthy improvement.

Here are a number of quick tips for starting and maintaining your food journal.

You will need to have something to record everything that you eat. You can use basically anything, however if you are on the go, you might want to think about a little notebook or binder that you can keep in your purse or desk. If it is portable, you are more likely to keep up with it.

Then, you will want to get in the practice of using it each time you eat. You need to take note of each and every snack, nibble and taste. Be sure you write down the date, the time and the place. This is useful so that you can go back and notice your own diet trends.

If you see that you eat a candy bar everyday at 3 p.m., then you can use this knowledge to make a change. You know that you need to work through your afternoon slump by eating something much healthier than a sugary snack bar.

You may also want to buy a book that will help you learn the fat grams and calories of the meals you eat. This is helpful when you need to be aware of the total amount of fat and calories you eat every day. You can also record your serving size such as “three chocolate kisses”. Each evening, check over the helpings of every food group, your combined fat intake and your total calorie intake. This will show you an effective idea of where you need to go with your diet.

If you persevere, I am sure you will soon see good results from using a food diary for healthier eating.

If you are as busy as most people, I imagine you will be pleased to find tips for feeding the family more easily.

1. Prepare several meals for the week at once. It may take a few hours of your time when you do it, but will pay off in the long run when you return from work every evening to find your meal ready to eat far more quickly. For example, try cooking a roast and using part of it as a main meal and then using some for sandwiches, beef stroganoff or as part of a stir-fry. Alternatively make a casserole, or chili con carne to freeze for use later in the week. Freeze meals in batches so that you don’t have to eat the same meal night after night.

2. On your return from shopping, prepare as many fruits and vegetables as you can. When it’s time for a meal all you need do is cook them or add to a salad or soup.

3. Watch the cooking shows on T.V. There are great ideas for making a healthy meal in a short time. You may find the recipes on Teletext or the Internet. Or just take notes as you watch. Don’t rely on your memory. It will probably let you down.

4. Try a revolving recipe file. If you are dismayed by the though of having to plan 30 meals a month this recipe file is for you. Pick 31 recipes and put them in a monthly file. Check the calendar and turn to day five or fifteen or whatever, and there is the meal just waiting to be cooked. Family members can be involved by adding their favorites

5. Enlist the help of the members of your family. As soon as children are old enough to help, divide up the cooking responsibilities. Everyone should take turns doing particular jobs or even cooking the full meal.

6. Share the cooking with friends or neighbors. I’ve known people who cook four or five of the same meal and then trade with four or five other people. For this to work people need to share the same basic ideas on what they like and don’t like. It’s a great idea for a very easy week of evening meals. In the modern multi-cultural society, it’s also a great way to taste meals from different cultures.

7. Save coupons for those convenience things at the grocery store. They have entire entrees and dinners either fresh or frozen. Sometimes they may be fairly expensive but with the coupons they are good to have in reserve for an evening when everyone is running in different directions and time is short.

8. It’s O.K. to eat out from time to time, to make a nice treat, and save your bones! Cut out and store coupons for these occasions. If you have children watch out for the places that have special prices for kids. Some of the fast-food restaurants are now trying to woo parents by offering food choices that are a little more healthy.

9. Many larger cities have firms that prepare your evening meal. This might initially seem expensive at first but it’s such a convenience. They may be available for one person or the whole family. There are many menu choices and meals cooked for special diets. When you work out the cost of the groceries you buy and the times you eat out each week, this may work for you.

10. Combine several of the above ideas into a plan that is best for you.

It is possible with a little planning to cook meals that are quick and easy without spending hours in the kitchen every day.
